The Mohn Westlake Foundation is proud to support PBE, a charity using economics to improve wellbeing and deliver greater impact across the social sector.
PBE uses economic analysis and the unique insight from our connection to the social sector to help charities, funders, firms and policymakers tackle the causes and consequences of low wellbeing in the UK. It supports small and medium-sized charities with impact evaluation and economic analysis, and conducts original research to influence policy and unlock the potential of the social sector.
This three-year core funding grant is enabling PBE to:
- Grow its proactive research programme, focusing on issues fundamental to wellbeing such as housing, children and young people’s mental health, and loneliness.
- Improve and expand its support for frontline charities, including its Understanding Impact workshops and bespoke economic analysis.
- Provide accessible insight into how wellbeing is distributed across the UK through its annual flagship publications on wellbeing.
- Deepen engagement with policymakers and civil society leaders, as seen in PBE’s 2024 summit attended by 17 Labour shadow ministers and addressed by Sir Keir Starmer.
- PBE has supported multiple charities, with their impact evaluation, published major reports, and launched a new Small Charities Forum to shape future research at PBE.
- Core funding has allowed PBE to invest in high-quality data analysis, stakeholder engagement and staff capacity, ensuring that its work is both rigorous and responsive to the needs of the social sector.
