The Mohn Westlake Foundation is delighted to be enabling the Royal Horticultural Society to grow its educational programme at its flagship garden, RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey, through a new grant.
The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is the UK’s largest gardening charity dedicated to enriching everyone’s lives through plants and making the UK a greener and more beautiful place. It aims to support young people’s health and wellbeing, and inspire a new generation of gardeners and horticultural scientists.
With The Mohn Westlake Foundation’s support, the charity is creating a new National Centre for Horticultural Science and Learning at Wisley. This will transform its learning facilities and internationally important scientific research, helping to find solutions for current social and environmental challenges affecting the planet.
Funding from The Mohn Westlake Foundation will help create two state-of-the-art learning studios within the new centre. The studios will be fully accessible, equipped with the latest technology and directly connected to a dedicated teaching garden designed and built to maximise teaching opportunities. These new studios will enable the charity to significantly increase its capacity to engage with young people, especially those children aged 11+.
Construction of the Centre began in March 2019, and is due to be completed in the autumn of 2020.
