The Mohn Westlake Foundation is delighted to be increasing the reach and impact of educational engagement efforts by the Royal Opera House, through five key initiatives.
The Mohn Westlake Foundation’s new grant will be supporting:
Chance to Dance; A project which gives primary school children from across the country, who do not have access to ballet, or live in disadvantaged areas, their first opportunity to engage creatively with ballet, connecting closely with the inspirational repertory, choreographers and dancers of The Royal Ballet.
Create and Sing Carmen; One of the Royal Opera House’s national teacher training programmes that equips primary school teachers with the skills and confidence they need to deliver dramatic singing to their pupils.
Design Challenge; An annual competition which offers students the opportunity to test and develop their design skills, based around a ballet production or opera.
Month of Sundays festival; An immersive programme every Sunday for one month with very affordable entry costs.
A new year-round programme of workshops
The latter two initiatives will both welcome people into the new public spaces of the Royal Opera House, where visitors will encounter stories from opera and ballet through festivals, dance workshops and craft afternoons; interact with characters from ballets and operas; and watch live demonstrations from technicians and craftspeople who bring productions to the stage, all with the aim of engaging new audiences in new and creative ways.
